Ottawa politicians refuse to have this discussion,

Because they are anxious about the probable repercussions,

Because in death-with-dignity; the clergy might be opposed,

Therefore in some future election; they might get deposed.

There are more important problems in places overseas,

Bombs and rockets and places with a strange ebola disease,

Global religious conflict on the other side of the globe,

More important than death-with-dignity that could be probed.

Even doctors say it should be up to their sense of right and wrong.

Therefore it shouldn't matter that much, if we should all get along,

But still somehow we are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea,

Politicians don't seem to care that this could mean so much to you and me.

Toronto needs a subway station in at least every square mile,

And some politicians do mention this every once in a while,

Because downtown congestion is bad and it keeps only getting worse,

Downtown day traffic is like a slow moving funeral hearse.

Big cities usually have vast subway organizations,

And everywhere, lots and lots and lots of subway stations,

It can't be that difficult to build many subway stations,

Or could the people of Toronto finally loose their patience?

The extortionate price for parking should put this in mind,

Or should whoever is in charge here, get kicked in the behind?

Put that subway-making machine down a hole and get it to work,

Because there is a danger that we could all go berserk.

COULD WE MOVE TO QUEBEC?     …AUG 17TH, 2014

Quebec has medically assisted death but other provinces don't,

Because we are forbidden and can't have it so we won't,

Our mega media moguls seem to avoid this subject completely,

Though you might see it mentioned somewhere very discretely.

Maybe I should move to Quebec in order to get these rights,

In order to avoid a painful death in the middle of the night,

Time flies; things happen; words said behind closed doors,

Is the issue of death with dignity avoided because it bores?

If this is supposed to be equality, then Quebec is way ahead,

Could we move to Quebec and maybe live in some homeless shed?

But maybe they might say it can't be done because we're not equal,

Is there more to this Canadian story -- is there a sequel?

Religious controversy can split any society in two,

That's Catholic, Muslim, Protestant. Christian or Jew,

Ireland, Israel and Palestine are examples of this,

Appointees pointing fingers at those they hate and want to fist.

Could our modern-day enlightenment electronics help in this?

To counteract these feelings so we get along and no one is at risk,

Even though these feelings may have been around a thousand years,

We need some proper leadership now to counteract these fears.

Renounce and replace this hatred and accept one another,

It may be difficult to accept them as sister and brother,

I know.  I know the feelings are strong and very entrenched,

But nothing to be gained from bombs or fists that are clenched.

Our isolated politicians in Ottawa don't have to think,

If there is a need, their political party will make the link,

Therefore death-with-dignity is never never mentioned,

They do what they are told and maybe stay till they are pensioned.

So go back to sleep and pretend that you will never die,

Seldom mentioned in the newspapers and no one asks why,

Its in the distant future and maybe by then, things will change,

Therefore no need to be bothered and why should this be strange?

Half European countries, ten US states and Quebec have it now,

Ottawa politicians do not want to take a bow or allow,

They've been told by their party bosses to stay quiet on this,

If they raise this issue the party could or might dismiss.

Canadians have been banned and can't arrange when or where to die,

By our Supreme Court dressed in red and no one really knows why,

Half the world has death-with-dignity now but we are not allowed,

We can't even ask about this and we better keep our heads bowed.

Because the issue is so rigid; we have to keep quiet and behave,

No matter how sick you are as you slowly go to your grave,

Sue Rodriguez found out the hard way about dying in pain,

Trapped with Lou Gehrig's disease; she couldn't even complain,

The Province of Quebec has it but they tend to speak French,

Maybe its our lack of French that puts us down in a trench,

Because for an unknown reason we just can't get what we want,

While the province that has death-with-dignity can flaunt.

We seem to be pretty lucky with our prime minister for now,

Let’s hope it continues as much as events and time will allow,

Let's hope he knows that eventually his time will run out,

Why are death-with-dignity and referendums still in doubt?

Our Supreme Court hidden agenda doesn’t make much sense,

Banned assisted suicide though thousands of abortions -- no offence,

Appointed lawyers from an extremely secret hidden list,

To be High Court judges dressed in red; is there something I missed?

Told Sue Rodriguez with Lou Gehrig's disease that she could die in pain,

A sign that we the ordinary people, may be locked in their chains,

Isolated Ottawa aristocrats completely out of touch,

Dressed in red like pompous bishops hiding in a church.
