CAN'T LIVE FOREVER … MAR 31ST, 2015

Unfortunately and eventually, we are all going to die,

And we can't do this with dignity and they won’t say why,

It's our politicians who seem to think, they know it all,

No death with dignity allowed for you -- not even a close call.

Why is this such a big deal -- which way we will die?

Better to go without much pain and look them in the eye,

Someone must have the answer to this, somewhere tucked away,

Or how could this be called democracy -- so far astray?

Some brave provincial premier should decide about this,

Get democracy back again as though it was never missed,

And then we can die with smiles on our faces and just go,

No need to suffer in terrible pain and feel very low.

Our politicians, despite the High Court decisions, are slow to change,

Though they have a whole year; they seem reluctant to arrange,

It seems like the issue is banned from being discussed in high places,

Or hidden quietly and secretly in front of our faces.

We don't have one political party to back doctor-assisted-death,

They have their own political views with a quiet but fiery breath,

What can we do to change this and influence their cause?

Mention half of Europe, Quebec and five US States just because.

Do they think that none of us will eventually die a horrible death?

No severe pain or suffering while we wait to take our last breath,

Therefore we will always agree with them and do what we are told,

Is wanting death-with-dignity, is a sign that we are too bold.

The High Court gave them a year to change the Death-With-Dignity law,

But they seem to look at this issue as a complete flaw,

They're too busy at the moment and may not have the time,

Their war in Syria will cost us a lot more than a dime.

So go back to sleep and forget this Death-With-Dignity stuff,

There may be or may not be, an election and isn't that enough?

Though half of Europe and five US states have it now,

Preachers say its suicide and a sin so it cannot be allowed.

This whole issue should have died or gone to sleep by now,

Instead, it stays around and might be inclined to cause a row,

Why can five US states have it now and we can't?

Should it be federal or provincial; any anti death-with-dignity rant?

I've known old folks who were not pleased, just waiting around to die,

And they didn't know how, or when, or where, though some knew why,

If we had had death-with-dignity; the whole affair could have been arranged,

But the preachers said that this was a sin and could not be prearranged.

Though when, where and why I will die, is a great concern to me,

Because I am already very old and its easier to discern and to see,

Though doctor assisted death is completely banned and forbidden,

A doctor could do fourteen years for making this decision.

I can't understand this strict political attitude,

Though the religious pulpit types, do show their gratitude,

And our politicians seem to hide from this decision,

They're busy at a meeting -- called administrative division.

Politicians running around in circles can show that they are strong,

But our lack of death-with-dignity is a sign that there's something wrong,

And doctor assisted death cannot even be mentioned,

And because nothing is said; nobody pays much attention.

Because death with dignity is also against Canadian law,

That plus the upper echelon think that this is great, so see no flaw,

Half the European countries already have it and five US states,

But we don't seem to be allowed to even have one of these debates.

It's as though we will never die so there is no need to worry or care,

And those of us who are even slightly religious, can say a prayer,

Because suicide is declared a mortal sin so we could go to hell,

Apparently its a very hot place in which to dwell.

Too many of the great guys I knew and worked with, are now long dead,

But the memories are still there, dancing and prancing inside my head,

And it's only a matter of time and we'll all be dead like them,

But we don't have death-with-dignity, so we don't know where or when.

And as of now; we can't change the rules about life and death,

And we can't have death-with-dignity when we take our last breath,

Though the Supreme Court told them to change the rules within a year,

Maybe they think that they will live forever without fear.

I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but you too will eventually die,

And as of now, you don't know when where or why,

And our politicians want nothing to change,

Is it possible that you might think that this is a little strange

Our Ottawa MPs seem to think that they got it right,

And the idea of changing the law, gives them a fright,

Though the Supreme Court gave them a year to do just that,

And for death-with-dignity, they will not go to bat.

Why do so many countries have death-with-dignity and we're not allowed?

Some sad souls go to Switzerland to meet the death-with-dignity crowd,

Our Ottawa MPs seem to think that we will never die,

Therefore we don't need death-with-dignity; that's why.

They want everything to stay the same and you, please behave,

Though there are folk in hospital dying in pain trying to be brave,

This is what the preachers want because suicide is a sin,

Therefore we the people are not allowed to win.

The secret of your life is the time and date of your death,

And without death-with-dignity, this is all the knowledge you will get,

Because all political party programmes want to forget death and deny,

Therefore there is no reason to announce the reason why.
