FORGET DEATH   … MAR 13TH, 2015

Our Ottawa MPs seem to think that they got it right,

And the idea of changing the law, gives them a fright,

Though the Supreme Court gave them a year to do just that,

And for death-with-dignity, they will not go to bat.

Why do so many countries have death-with-dignity and we're not allowed?

Some sad souls go to Switzerland to meet the death-with-dignity crowd,

Our Ottawa MPs seem to think that we will never die,

Therefore we don't need death-with-dignity; that's why.

They want everything to stay the same and you, please behave,

Though there are folk in hospital dying in pain trying to be brave,

This is what the preachers want because suicide is a sin,

Therefore we the people are not allowed to win.

The secret of your life is the time and date of your death,

And without death-with-dignity, this is all the knowledge you will get,

Because all political party programmes want to forget death and deny,

Therefore there is no reason to announce the reason why.

As we get older and even older and closer to our deaths,

This is something our politicians would like us to forget,

The Supreme Court gave them a year to change our laws,

But they say they're too busy and can't do it just because.

So preachers on TV and on pulpits often call suicide a sin,

Therefore we could all go to hell and there is no way we can win,

And doctor assisted death should be avoided at all costs,

It doesn't matter if you have pain and the sickness that exhausts.

They want this death-with-dignity affair to go away,

And don't bother our party politicians, so go and pray,

And show some respect for our high class Ottawa elites,

Because they were elected to their parliamentary seats.

The Supreme Court gave our politicians a year to change the law,

But now our politicians might delay delay and can't see the flaw,

There is no doubt that the various religions are involved,

They oppose all suicides and don't want this problem changed or resolved.

These pompous preachers on pulpits call all suicides a sin,

Therefore we the sick elderly sinners, are confused in a spin,

So the sins of suicides they want to have delayed,

They say It might cause our present legal system to degrade.

Why are we the people stuck, entombed in this place?

Is this democracy without referendums, right in our face?

What can we do to get death with dignity accepted?

Just listen to the news and do nothing as expected.

Our gutless Ottawa party politicians are up to their old tricks,

They seem to look down on us as just a group of old hicks,

Its delay delay; now that death-with-dignity has been allowed,

So no doctor-assisted-death for us so keep your head bowed.

Though two thirds of Canadians support death-with-dignity now,

We've been through enough and don't want another row,

Though doctors are not compelled to be involved,

Provincial or federal legislation could get this issue solved.

Quebec already has an assisted suicide law,

Will go into effect later this year without a flaw,

Its legal in ten other countries and five US states,

But still our politicians are reluctant to have this debate.

Our High Court put a deadline, when the rules are to be changed,

So that death-with-dignity can be legally arranged,

Some politicians claim that a year is too short to write a new law,

They want committees to review the affair in case there's a flaw.

Though some very sick people may have to wait in their pain,

While party politicians want to ensure, they are in the right lane,

So I hope you are not one of those sick folks being kept alive,

Waiting for the Death-With-Dignity law to arrive.

While some preachers on the pulpits think that this is great,

Therefore some politicians see no reasons to have a debate,

But where are the politicians we need to get us out of this mess?

So that those who are sick and want to die will have less stress.

Some American states still have the death penalty -- good for them!

And they're not afraid to use it on those whom they condemned,

We don't have the death penalty -- not politically correct,

And our lenient court system is not considered a threat.

So the idea that we should maybe change things, is not accepted,

Plus the notion of changes to elections would be intercepted,

Because those who rule the roost are not keen about change,

If something should change, they want to be the ones who arrange.

But we should add binding referendums to Trudeau's Charter,

Some clever politician should and could add another chapter,

This would improve our democracy, which they say, we don't need,

To keep the terrorists out and on this, we should all be agreed.

I'm more than a little pissed off at our world affairs,

Certain small countries want war and no one seems to care,

And they want others involved, somewhere way over there,

I thought the UN should figure this out but do they even care?

They should tell these people to cool down and stop these wars,

Learn to tolerate each other -- no more flag carrying killing corps,

Imposing other beliefs and religions is not the way to go,

Someone should tell them this, as many other countries now know.

Every day, we have another death chapter in the papers,

One unholy flag-carrying group pulling another strange caper,

Surely someone can figure a way out of this dilemma,

Because this is madness -- not just religious drama.
