A SCANDAL … MAR 30TH, 2014

Apparently we had or have a gas scandal which was denied,

Ontario politicians claim they were not involved and they never lied,

That cancellation of the gas-fired power plants,

Then appointed politicians made even more power rants.

Does anyone really know what secret stuff went on over there?

Will someone stand up and tell the whole truth in this affair?

We don’t have recall or referendums so there’s not much we can do,

We don’t know when or if they’ll call an election as we stew.

Somewhere along the way, Toronto turned into Hong Kong,

It may have happened overnight because it didn’t take long,

Or maybe it was Bombay India or was that the next day?

And the place is getting crowded though the crowds seems okay,

Its multiculturalism in a dozen different ways,

Some folks claim its even better than the so called good old days,

Lots of jobs here and there while very few complain,

No use because our politicians are in a constant strain.

Its they -- not the immigrants -- that might be the problem here,

Some want to tax and spend and travel blatantly without fear,

Some sound as though they are in and out of a constant row,

Should I or should I not, vote for that nice Olivia Chow?

Does democracy mean anything where our politicians are crying?

Where our eighty percent favor medically-assisted dying,

It’s a contentious issue our Ottawa elites all say,

And we are only allowed to think, “be that as it may.”

And why are our elite upper echelon so isolated up there?

How can they continue to pretend that they are unaware?

How long do we have to wait until they change their minds?

When and if there is an election for these political kinds?

Half the countries in Europe and ten US states have it now,

Though our Supreme Court and politicians still won’t allow,

There is obviously a fault line here that we should correct,

We can’t figure out when or how to die or if we can select.

Canadians have no requirement or obligation to vote,

Politicians seem to like it this way on their gravy-train boat,

Add that to first-past-the-post election system and take a note,

The combined loosers almost always have many more votes.

Proportional representation is frowned upon by these elites,

They like this strange set system and they want to keep their seats,

No binding referendums, no recall in this desperation,

Your call is important to us but are you a relation?

Add  these problems to the illusion of party politics fix,

Plus tax-and-spend travelling politicians with economic tricks,

Then an abortion clinic on each street for population growth,

And no assisted suicide because of Hippocratic oath.

No propositions and no binding referendums allowed,

The establishment types want us to talk but with our heads bowed,

To show respect and don’t dare try to turn on the Internet,

Strange ideas that might get inside our heads and then infect.

No mid-term or set-date elections or maybe none at all,

Their political parties have us with our backs against the wall,

No proportional representation in their first-past-the-post,

Banned from the UN Security Council though they might boast.

At one time I thought that they might bring about political change,

Remember Mulroney’s GST and what his Senate arranged,

No one with an independent thought is allowed to come forth,

And death with dignity is not allowed, nor will it be henceforth.

Is it possible that this winter will never go away?

Has anyone figured out why the terrible delay?

Should the Supreme Court be asked if this is their fault?

And could they make a decision that this bad weather should halt?

This is the middle of March and its minus ten degrees,

Still frozen ice and white snow up higher than our frozen knees,

And no one seems to know what to do about this disaster,

Its beginning to feel like our feet are also stuck in plaster.

Are human rights written down somewhere like the law of the land?

Does Trudeau’s Charter give terrorists the right to take a stand?

Why are we not allowed binding referendums like the Swiss?

Should our politicians allow this or should they just dismiss?

Should Canadians have recall to keep politicians in check?

Eighteen US States have recall in their constitution deck,

The State of California has used recall, not once, but twice,

Canadians still can’t have it so it’s like the throw of the dice.

Should Canadians have propositions or are they forbidden too?

If we needed these changes; when and where or who should we go to?

Does all that noise in Parliament amount to a hill of beans?

Do we need a new political party maybe like the Greens?
