Most of the women in my age group are very very old,

Many sitting in the lobby of a senior's building so I'm told,

Peaceful and quiet where absolutely nothing is strange,

Just waiting to die but for sure, this cannot be arranged.

Our politicians avoid any problem about death,

Maybe they think that they themselves will never run out of breath,

We do not have death with dignity and the subject may be banned,

But Quebec, half of Europe and eight US States think it's grand.

We can only influence our politicians at elections,

If we had binding referendums, we could make many corrections,

So our politicians are quite pleased at the way things are right now,

Can't mention death with dignity because that might cause a row.

It seems that all our politicians have been told to stay quiet,

They can oppose death with dignity and there will be no riot,

That's Ottawa and Toronto politicians because no one cares,

Not like Quebec where they seem to have fixed these affairs.

Maybe they know more in Quebec where they mostly speak French,

They have a death-with-dignity law while we stand in a trench,

Media moguls will not allow much to be written about this,

Nor about binding referendums, already held by the Swiss.

So we can't rock the boat and bring these changes about,

Which goes to show that we the people have very little clout,

And we can't change Trudeau's Charter because that's not allowed.

Many of these details are seldom if ever mentioned aloud.

Why were so many aboriginal women missing and dead?

It seems to me to be something serious that is widespread,

Five hundred and eighty two murdered ladies now long gone,

The many investigators left with little or nothing to act on.

Something should be done though I don't know what,

It should not be swept under the rug as if we're tied in a knot,

It seems the whole affair has gone but why are we so confident?

So many cases, difficult to investigate or even document.

Suspicious circumstances, Metis, Inuit and First Nations,

Hundreds of different Canadian ladies in various locations,

Eighty eight percent of these missing ladies were mothers,

It seems there's a lot we don't know -- were there others?

Too many politicians want to be politically correct,

So doctor-assisted death is not something we can expect,

The holy church-bound religious crowd are totally opposed,

They consider this a mortal sin that should not be disclosed.

This probably won't bother you till you are about to die in pain,

And the medical doctors are legally obliged to abstain,

This is serious stuff -- seldom if ever mentioned in the press,

Your friends don't talk about this so no one is in distress.

Though half of Europe, Quebec and ten US States have it now,

You might wonder when all this legal stuff happened and how?

Because we have been quietly and constantly kept in the dark,

And we are busy at the moment trying to find a spot to park.

Why are our Ottawa politicians so distant and remote?

Why does It feel like they really have us by the throat?

Why have they avoided doctor-assisted death for ever?

Why do they refuse binding referendums and think they are clever?

Maybe they think that they themselves will never never die,

Therefore there is no need to even care or bother to ask why,

They will continue in Ottawa till the end of time,

Therefore there's no need to even see if this poem rhymes.

 Because they will still be there long after you and I are dead,

Maybe they know something we don't know and should dread,

So its the provincial politicians we should talk to about this,

They never heard of this before and don't want to reminisce.

Should the lack of referendums matter much to us?

Never mentioned in the media and no one causes a fuss,

Should our politicians discuss doctor assisted death?

Are these subjects forbidden in high places -- you can bet.

How do we go about changing death-with-dignity affairs?

We get the impression that in Ottawa, no one really cares,

Though eventually everyone of us will suffer death,

Sorry to have to tell you this and I know its a little terse,

Someone rewrite the Charter with binding referendums for all,

Get us out of this mess we are in before we have to crawl,

Which politician, which party will come down to the ground on this?

Binding referendums are listed in the Constitution of the Swiss.

There is no doubt about it but you and I are going to die,

Though we might do anything to delay this final goodbye,

And death with dignity is forbidden as though it is a mortal sin,

Except in Quebec where they speak a lot of French and win.

Half the countries in Europe and ten US States have it now,

But still the religious clergy always oppose it somehow,

And we are left in the middle of this and don't know what to do,

Just go to work and shut up and wait till you death is due.

This issue should be provincial if Quebec has it now,

So why bother Ottawa politicians because they won't allow,

This gets more important as we get older and closer to dying,

Despite politicians, judges and clergy; we should keep on trying.
