Death-with-dignity is taught by the religious to be suicide,

This is what they have been taught and therefore we should abide,

Because the sin of suicide has to be avoided at all costs,

Therefore the doctor might be jailed for fourteen years at a great loss.

Switzerland, Quebec and five US States have death-with-dignity now,

They did it quietly, peacefully and without any row,

Therefore Ontario should be able to do this too,

One binding referendum could fix this, though banned and overdue.

Unfortunately our Ontario politicians think they are great,

Therefore they have no reason that this issue should come up for debate,

And nothing much should change in this regard so please shut up,

Death-with-dignity is banned and illegal and that's enough.

The issue of death-with-dignity is swept under the rug,

Out of sight, out of mind, so no one can come forward and bug,

Those dying in pain cannot have assistance or doc goes to jail,

That plus this stern death issue; is hidden in great detail.

The matter of binding referendums is well hidden too,

Politicians are always busy doing something else on cue,

Because that could bring democracy which they want to avoid,

And its their party -- not the country -- that will decide.

So please; you may as well go back to sleep because its getting late,

And none of this stuff can come up for political debate,

Death with dignity is banned and illegal and cannot be mentioned,

And indeed this might cause a lot of religious tension.

Our establishment politicians in Ottawa refuse,

No death with dignity for you and they are not one bit confused,

And though you may have to die in pain but you don't know yet,

Ideas like this; the establishment wants you to forget.

The date of your death is unknown though it gets closer every day,

And without doctor assisted death; you have no say,

You could go to Switzerland and see what they do there,

But that's expensive, not well known and you may not be aware.

We are caught in history, waiting for events to happen,

Without influence or referendums and pretend to be laughing,

We can't figure out the dates of our deaths because it can't be planned,

Sorry to have to tell you this but religious folk think this is grand.

Party politicians are not allowed an independent thought,

Some of them of course may realize that they have been bought,

Where death with dignity might be considered a mortal sin,

The religious establishments are opposed; so we can't win.

Quebec has death with dignity but we are forbidden,

Doctors could do fourteen years in jail completely hidden,

The Sue Rodriguez Supreme Court decision caused this,

So Canadians who want death with dignity, may go see the Swiss.

And binding referendums are also banned so people can't change,

Though Quebec has referendums too and were able to rearrange,

This is one strange dilemma, seldom mentioned in the press,

As some people wonder; how did we get into this political mess?

Almost all religions teach that death-with-dignity is not good,

Could end up with the devil in hell; is that understood?

And its illegal; so therefore the rules have to be obeyed,

Or the doctor could do fourteen years in prison for giving aid.

Ordinary people have been told to stay out of this,

By elite pompous bureaucrats who don't even give a shit,

The problem is our isolated party politicians,

Its not what we want but what are their party conditions?

Where death-with-dignity must be a forbidden subject,

Swept under the rug in this pure holy pious project,

Why does Quebec have death with dignity and we don't?

They also have referendums while we are politically prone.

I can tell by looking at myself, that I'm getting very old,

Many of my old comrades are dead and that was sad, so I've been told,

So every day, I get a little closer to the day I will die,

This final event cannot be planned and I don't know why.

When I go to a reunion meeting and know no one there,

I was retired before they even arrived and why should they care?

Its as if I never did belong so its better that I was  gone,

Times have changed these days and now no one sings a song.

And death with dignity cannot even be mentioned or discussed,

There's no need to agree so you can just turn you head in disgust,

And those who are locked in religions have already sold their souls,

Death with dignity, they've been told, is not one of their goals.

Our politicians have avoided death-with-dignity for years,

For no known reason but maybe it has something to do with their careers,

They are all politically correct and some talk on TV,

But nothing controversial, unsuitable for them or you or me.

Let's face it; Canadian terrorists, if any,  have Charter rights,

No mention of capital punishment -- out of mind, out of sight,

And the appointed Senate can stay until they are all seventy five,

Maybe longer; who knows; so long as these appointees thrive.

If they allowed doctors to give assistance to those sick who want to die,

It would solve a lot of problems but they refuse and won't say why,

They told Sue Rodriguez with Lou Gehrig's disease and she died,

In pain and sorrow and not one judge or politician even cried.
